Busting Excuses: Why You Deserve to Give Yourself The Boudoir Experience

It’s SO easy to make excuses for not taking care of ourselves. Like, it’s actually almost scary how easy it is. We get caught up in our work, or in other tasks that seem more important, and we just don’t prioritize it in the way that we should. But stop and think about it for a second: Wouldn’t it feel amazing—and wouldn’t it be helpful—to take just a few hours to celebrate YOU? To empower yourself and to capture that feeling of empowerment forever?

Honestly, when you think of self-care, a boudoir session might not be the first thing that comes to mind. But it’s actually one of the best acts of love you can do for yourself, because it encompasses both physical and mental self-care: You get to be pampered by your hair & makeup artist, and you walk away feeling on top of the world and more confident than you ever thought possible. I wrote this post to draw attention to some of the excuses people often make for putting off a boudoir shoot—and to remind you not to let these things hold you back!

“I have so much going on in my life, I just don’t think I can find the time…”

I get it. Believe me, I do. But the fact is, we *have* to carve out time to focus solely on making ourselves feel good. From spending time with friends, to simply taking a proper lunch break during the work day…these things are so much more important for our overall well-being than we realize. A boudoir shoot is a unique (and fun!) opportunity to escape the rest of the world for a little while, and enter a space where it’s all about loving and accepting yourself just as you are. It’s a space that’s definitely worth scheduling some time for!

“I’m not at my goal weight/size yet.”

I’ll let you in on a secret. Most of us aren’t. Myself included. But that doesn’t mean you can’t or shouldn’t love yourself just the way you are right now! You don’t have to dislike your body to reach your goals. You can strive for more and find a way to feel love, acceptance, and pride in who you are now. And I promise, nothing is gonna make you fall in love with yourself harder than seeing your boudoir photos.

“I’m not sexy in that way. I’m super awkward in front of the camera and I just don’t think I could pull it off”

…said every woman who’s ever been in front of my camera before (and I’ve even said it myself!) You have a fierce, confident inner badass hiding inside of you, and nothing will help you get in touch with that part of yourself better than a boudoir session. You’ll be surprised how in touch with your sensuality you’ll begin to feel when you’re being posed by a professional. You can pull it off—take it from someone who still instinctually holds up the peace sign when there’s an iPhone camera aimed at her.

You also don’t have to wear super “spicy” lingerie or clothing. If that doesn’t really suit your style or personality, that’s COMPLETELY okay, and I can 100% help you find outfit options that are more true to who you are. That’s what my sessions are all about!

“I never like the way I look in pictures. How is this going to be any different?”

How often are you being photographed by someone who has spent countless hours studying and practicing angles, lighting and posing techniques that make people of all body types look their absolute best? Not to mention, how often do you see photos of yourself all done up by a hair and makeup expert? Boudoir is completely different from any other type of portrait photography. It’s thoughtful, it’s artistic, and it’s specifically intended to capture its subjects in the most flattering way possible. Boudoir is actually the best type of portraiture for people who don’t typically like photos of themselves, because it makes you view yourself in a whole new light!

“It’s a big investment that I just can’t afford right now.”

It’s true that boudoir is an investment. But it’s also true that most boudoir photographers are more than happy to set up flexible payment plans to make it a bit more accessible (because everyone deserves this experience). There is a retainer fee/session fee required to book and to hold your date and time, and then after your shoot when you select the products you want, we can chat about payment plan options that work for you!
