Isn’t there just something so special, meaningful, and real about the way we displayed our photos before the digital age? Setting a picture of your S.O. as your lock screen background just doesn’t have the same charm as carrying around a physical, tangible photograph of them in a locket or your wallet. Flipping through a yellowed family photo album just feels like a sacred, significant act in a way clicking through the same photos on a computer doesn’t. There was a time when it was simply understood that we would blow up our portraits and hang them on the wall. As your boudoir photographer, I’m here to remind you that you can still do that today…and not just with your family or wedding portraits, but with your boudoir photos as well!
Okay, I know what you’re probably thinking. There was a time when I, too, thought, ehh, I don’t know…do I really like myself enough to hang a giant photo of myself on my wall? That mindset shifted when the pandemic hit. I found myself taking comfort in old pictures, printing them out and hanging them up because I needed to rediscover the self-confidence and self-love I knew I was losing. That’s when I started to understand the true value of boudoir wall art, and that’s why I now have it built into my collections. The whole point of your boudoir session is to make you feel like a work of art. And what better way to have that daily reminder than to have the most confident, beautiful, badass version of yourself displayed on a luxurious canvas or metal print on your wall?
I say it all the time: Deciding to do a boudoir session is an act/declaration of self-love. And I can’t even tell you how amazing it feels to have a physical, tangible representation of that experience!
What types of photos work best as wall art?
It might depend on where in your home you plan to display the wall art, but generally, in my experience, the shots that tend to be more popular choices for canvases and metal prints are the more body-focused/bodyscape ones. Many of my clients have told me that they wouldn’t hesitate to hang an artistic nude portrait in their home, but never considered that the subject of the portrait could be themselves. I say, it’s your space, and your life, so why the hell not?!
Where should I hang my wall art piece?
I’ve seen/heard of clients hanging their boudoir wall art in the bedroom, bathroom, living room, and even the kitchen. Overall, you know the decor theme/color scheme/general vibe of your home better than anyone, so you are the person best suited to answer the question of placement. Know that, just like there is no wrong reason to do a boudoir shoot, there is no wrong place to hang your wall art!
Is boudoir wall art a good gift idea for my S.O?
Honestly, I can’t imagine a world where your partner wouldn’t want a piece of art that showcases your beauty, confidence & vulnerability…so I say absolutely.
