Tips For Getting The Most Out Of Your Boudoir Experience & How To Prepare

Okay, now that I’ve booked my boudoir session, what should I do to get ready for it? That’s a totally normal question that the majority of my clients have! There can be a lot of nerves and emotions leading up to a boudoir shoot, and that’s okay! I am here to help! These guidelines and suggestions are meant to help ease your minds and help you prepare for this awesome experience!

What to wear

One of the most common questions I receive is: “What should I wear for my boudoir session?” The answer is really whatever makes you feel sexiest. It doesn’t even necessarily have to be lingerie. Aside from bodysuits and bra/panty sets, some clothing items that can look really fantastic in boudoir photos are: silk robes, loose/ thin sweaters, open zip-up hoodies, partners’ jerseys or button-down shirts. If you need specific outfit guidance or are unsure about a particular piece, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me directly! You’ll also receive a thorough wardrobe guide from me once you book your shoot.

Including meaningful props

Props and special items can be fun additions to a boudoir session, as well as a way to personalize your photos. If you’re doing a bridal boudoir session & the photos are intended to be given as a wedding day gift to your future spouse, flowers—either real or artificial—can be a really nice touch. I’ve also seen clients include items that are near and dear to their partner’s heart or are representative of their relationship, such as musical instruments, video game controllers, badges/uniform pieces, etc. This section is not intended to overwhelm you with ideas, but rather to encourage you, if you already have an idea for a prop, to bring it with you. We may not end up using it, but at least we’ll have it there as an option!

Fill out your pre-session questionnaire

A few days before your session, I will send you a brief questionnaire to fill out, which will help me prepare for your session and create an amazing, personalized experience for you. Your nervousness will start to melt away & you’ll begin to feel at home from the moment you walk in!

Listen to “pump-up” music on the way to your session

All of my clients do this, and all of them have said it helped to get them in the right headspace for the shoot. We’ll have music playing during the session too, of course, but having your own little private pump-up session in your car can be such a great way to start off the experience!

Fuel up with a light, energy-boosting breakfast

It’s best to avoid eating a big meal too close to your session time, as it can leave you feeling a bit bloated.  I recommend a small bowl of fruit or piece of hand fruit as an energy-boosting breakfast!

Relax while getting your hair & makeup done

I’ll let you in on a little secret…complimentary mimosas are included in your session fee. Many of my clients find that sipping a mimosa while getting their hair and makeup done before their session helps them loosen up a bit.

Carry your goddess energy with you for the rest of the day

If possible, leave your makeup & hair done for the rest of the day—one of the main reasons why I prefer to schedule boudoir sessions in the morning is because it gives you the chance to walk around feeling beautiful & confident for the whole rest of the day, and show your post-session glow to more people.
